This radio requires programming software and a cable to set it up. It cannot be configured with the radio controls. The cable specified by iCom is OPC-1122. Rather expensive if purchased from icom though you can buy clones cheaper. It's easy, and a lot cheaper, to roll your own with a USB to 3.3v TTL serial adapter and an old network cable.
I wired an RJ-45 breakout board to a pin connector. This way I can use whatever length network cable I need.
